One Crazy Summer tells the story of three sisters who travel to Oakland, California, in 1968 to meet the mother who abandoned them. Eleven year old Delphine is like a mother to her two younger sisters, Vonetta and Fern. She's had to be, ever since their mother, Cecile, left them seven years ago for a radical new life in California. When they arrive from Brooklyn to spend the summer with her, Cecile is nothing like they imagined. source: Amazon.com

January 27th - Observation of the Black Panthers
Are the Black Panthers Delphine observes at breakfast her first few morning in Oakland like she expected them to be?
Delphine what she seen on TV she thought that they were going to be bad but she was wrong why think that is because when Sister Mukumbu let her pay for the newspaper for only 20 cent.
Delphine doesn’t expect the Black Panthers to be what she thought they were because she seen them on TV and they were very violent and they weren’t violent and they were helping at the center and they got along with the delivery man in tell crazy Kelvin was talking about him. Delphine didn’t expect the Black panthers to act like kind people. She expected them to be cruel mean people because she has seen stuff on the new so she was kind of a thing she expected from them. By: Ian Christopher Keller Stocking Elementary 5th grade Ms. Doughty
Delphine thought they would be shooting people, but they`re just peaceful. They`re just trying to have blacks have the same rights as whites. Sister Mukumbu is in the black panthers and she split up a fight between Delphine and sister Eunice

The black panthers are kinda both of what Delphine imagined and what she didn’t, so it’s a yes and no because Delphine saw the Black Panthers treat Fern like dirt with the doll accident. And how the white men came with the supply truck and the food and for a second she thought the black panthers were different until they left and they started being racist and crazy Kelvin said “that’s the least those racist dogs can do.”. I enjoyed "Everyone Knows the King of the Sea". I liked this chapter because Delphine's anger was so strong. I could feel the weight of that anger pouring out, after so many years that she has kept it quiet inside of her. Especially towards the word "name". She was so angry that Cecile changed her name, that her name was not special, as she always had thought, that Cecile could not call Fern by her real name. I wonder if she will be able to make peace within herself and with Cecile.
anonymous said... why did the mother of Vonetta,Fern, and Delphine left them. Fern whent to the kitchen and she was looking for a cup then Cecile pulled back spilling a few drops at her feet. cecile said little girl, you better takethis if you want it".Fern's fists balled from behind her nightie and again I reach out,but cecile glared, like, girl,i will knock you down.

I think Delphine felt like the Black Panthers were taking care of the blacks but no she said they look out for Mexican and Chinese and a little white boy also Delphine said everyone else was black and the black panthers making breakfasts on the news.
I think yes but it depends on what she thinks in her brain but yes I say yes or maybe she feels that way about those people and about what she had said in the book. Danika Shaw Stocking elementary school
