January 22nd - Elements of Characters

What elements in the story gives you clues to the characters' personalities?

  1. I think Vonetta is very unusual because in the chapter Coloring and La-La Vonetta tries to be friends with one of the Ankton sisters who were bullies to Fern. Vonetta can’t control her anger and shows that when she ruins Ferns doll. Also, she tried to hide evidence by acting naturally at dinner.

  2. The characters personalities give me a clue how they are in the store for example, Fern loves miss patty cake. She showed she love Miss Patty cake by fighting with Vonetta when Vonetta colored on Miss Patty cake. Also Cecile shows she is a mother that does like or care about her daughter’s. When Cecile didn’t give the girls food that shows she didn’t care about her daughters or loved them.

  3. Vonetta is considered selfish. In the text, it showed she was being selfish to Fern when Fern was saying stuff to vonetta’s friend.

  5. Vonetta is boss when she gets around her new friends because she change her personality because she used to fighting together with fern, delpine because they only had either because Cecile do not care about them but when they went home they ate dinner and then they went into the room and fern look at miss patty cake face and it was color on and it and they stated to fight and so that how you know that Vonetta is changing because they didn’t never fight like that then that when Cecile came in and pulled her off of fern.

  6. Delphine feels about Cecile’s name is that Cecile is not her real but when she is in California her real name is Nzila. Nzila is for Yoruba what they call a path.

  7. I say that when they had moved with their mom, Cecile, they were thinking that she would be great. But when they got in the car she was being all mean and stuff like that. Then they were trying to be all nice to their mom but she did not like it. So then the kids started to go their own ways. So what I am saying is one of the kids had to pick between her mean friends or her great sisters. She picked her friends. But her friends were mean to Fern but the girl that was a friend with the other girl was Vonetta.

  8. An element in the story that gives me a clue to their personalities are what they do and how they talk. An example would be when Vonetta was being rude to her sister Fern and she would rather play with the Antkon sisters then her own sister. Also when Fern had marker on her doll Delphine was there to get it off because the doll was Fern’s favorite. But Fern was brave enough to forget about it.

  9. An example of a characters personality could be that Cecile wouldn’t cook them dinner so they left the stucco. They went to the center to have breakfast because Cecile wasn’t in a mood to cook in her kitchen. She would’ve been mad.

  10. An element that gives a clue to their personalities would be their actions. Delphine must be brave because when her sister was getting picked on she helped her sister . I think Cecile really doesn’t care about her kids and that she has an angry personality. Fern really likes to stick with her sister. Vonetta likes to be other people’s friends and likes to run around a lot.

  11. Some of the elements that helped me like the characters like on chapter Eating Crow it said “the next morning Cecile stood outside our door and said “its nine o’clock. Why y’all still here? Vonetta pointed to me.”It’s her fault.’’ Fern joined in. “all her fault” “she won’t take us to the center.” “Yeah, she said we can’t go no more.” That helped me understand how their attitude was and how they are towards Delphine.

  12. I think that Vonetta is the meanest of all the sisters. When she was playing with the Ankton sisters in the chapter “Coloring and La-La” Delphine and her sister Fern walked up to her. When Vonnetta saw them she said go away .

  16. The elements in the story that help there characteristics are on page 70 in the book One Crazy Summer. The person I'm describing is Delphine I think that she is mean and that she is smart-mouthed the reason why she is mean is because she says on page 70 that she wanted to sock the kid in the black T and there is several points that she gets a smart mouth like when she wanted to yell at her mom.

  18. Something that gives me a clue about Cecile's personality is that she is mean. One reason from chatter 8 and page 52 she said to Fern "drank the bath room water". Fern said " it's nasty" . Cecile said "then you ain't thirsty , little girl" . I think this is rude because she didn't give her a glass of water until she begged. Also, she didn't cook them food or cook for them. Cecile said to her children " if you want breakfast go'n down to the people's center." A.k.a. The soup kitchen or the supper house. These are my clues that make me feel like Cecile is mean to her children.

  19. Something that gives me a clue about Cecile's personality is that she is mean. One reason is from chapter 5, the mean lady Ming chapter. Because when they said they was hungry she made them give her their money, also she stuffed their money in her pants pocket, gave them a little bit of their money back and made them walk to the restaurant by their self, at night. Also she made them drink water out of the bathroom sink, fern said it was nasty. Soo, this is something that gives me a clue about Cecile's personality .
