One Crazy Summer tells the story of three sisters who travel to Oakland, California, in 1968 to meet the mother who abandoned them. TODAY IS THE FIRST "GREAT DAY OF BLOGGING". The new question to you, students, is why do you think people make sacrifices?
People make sacrifices to help people. For example, when my friend and decided to give up our computer time to help clean. We did this because to help the teachers. In One Crazy Summer Delphine made sacrifices. She gave up her seat to sit by the window. She sit in the middle so that her sisters wouldn’t fight. She really wanted to sit by the window but her sister was not doing the right thing. She wanted to see the Golden Gate Bridge. By Destinee O’Neal Stocking Elementary 5th Grade
People make sacrifices because if that person means a lot to you and you love them you will eventually sacrifice something for them if it’s your life or just a little toy. You can do something for someone who does things for you every day. They are there for you every day and they help you with day to day problems. From helping with homework to being your counselor. Or helping you with emotional problems. But there are other ways of sacrifice because if you’re an Indian you sometimes believe in spirits so you sacrifice a person so you can give the spirit a soul. But now let’s talk about One Crazy Summer. If you read the chapter Glass of Water you can see how Fern is asking for a glass of water but Cecile says drink the water out of the bathroom. But Fern says it’s nasty. Then Cecile raises her hand and Delphine comes in and stands in front of Fern so her sister doesn’t get slapped. Delphine is risking getting slapped. I made a sacrifice when they said you can stay here with your brother or go to your dad’s house without my brother. I made the sacrifice of not going to my dad’s to stay with my brother for that weekend to play video games with him. Delphine made the sacrifice of not seeing Golden Gate Bridge for the first time in her whole life by sitting in the middle just so Vonetta and Fern didn’t fight on the plane. A sacrifice is the act of giving up something that you want to keep in order to get or to do something else or to help somebody. A person might also sacrifice having fun at the movies because they want to save their money. I think people make sacrifices so they can help people in life. For example, at my aunt’s house I let my brother sleep on the bed while I sleep on the sofa in the living room at night. That makes me feel good so he can sleep longer while I sleep during the afternoon and so he can’t bug me for food or something and that makes him feel good to because he doesn’t get a lot of sleep at night. A sacrifice that Delphine made was to go down the street to get food, paper plates, plastic cups, plastic silverware, and napkins at Ming’s for dinner. People make sacrifices so they can survive. For example, if somebody had a baby they would need to buy clothes for the baby. They also would need to buy food and other things that the baby would need so that the baby could survive. To pay for those things the person would have to get a job and give up staying at home. A sacrifice that I made is when my brother said that my cousin took his money. When I went to go see if my cousin was still here he was already gone. So then I made a sacrifice by saying I took his money but I really didn’t. So then I got in trouble by my parents instead of my cousin getting in trouble. Delphine made a sacrifice by giving Cecile the money that pa gave her because if she would have said no then Cecile would have been mad at her and Cecile would have hit her.

Also another sacrifice that happen in the story, is when the girls gave up there money to buy food for themselves. With that money they were going to go to Disneyland. People make sacrifices because the person is caring for a another person for an examples if you are falling down a hill you have to make a sacrifice to either keep falling or you can call on someone for help and another is that if you have time to go to the library or you can make a sacrifice to stay home and clean your house up and get it net. Now you could help a person to do something like cook, pick up something they had dropped, I could give up my recess to help a teacher to clean up something or help fix books, I could give up my party time and do work with your teacher and that is how you can really make a sacrifice in your life.
